May’s Astrology and Other Reflections
Updates and Reflections on Astrological Timing
My sincerest, most heart-felt gratitude to you, my dear friends and supporters, for your patience as I continue to develop my practice! I have May’s astrology forecast for you below this section, but first, much is happening that I’d like to share with you:
I’ve been awarded a scholarship by the International Society for Astrological Research to pursue studies in chart rectification! Chart rectification is a set of techniques that astrologers use to determine a client’s accurate birth time in the case that it is in question or unknown. It requires a mastery of several timing techniques and much skill in hearing the astrological implications in what a client shares. Important dates in a person’s life, along with key personal facts, become an entryway to a birth chart they previously did not have full access to. I am so excited to learn these techniques because I wholeheartedly believe in making astrology accessible to more folks. It is a profoundly healing art that provides us with insights into ourselves, our lives, our place in the universe and the ways we are asked to move through time. I think anyone that is interested in exploring themselves through astrology should be able to, whether or not they had the privilege of their birth time being recorded. If you are interested in having your own birth chart rectified, feel free to reach out– I will certainly want to work with you as I develop these skills in the coming year!
In other news, about a month ago, I did my first pop-up event and provided mini-consultations for folks in Orlando at Sandy Rubin’s jewelry showroom! It was a beautiful experience all around, as not only did I have the opportunity to give in-person readings and meet some truly lovely individuals, but I also was able to combine astrology with my other two passions in the process: poetry and jewelry! In the lead up to our event, I wrote a poem for each gemstone that Sandy works with in her Encounter Ring, correlating the stone to its ancient planetary ruler! I have A LOT more to say about this that will likely become a larger blog post but for now, you can check out the gemstones and their planetary associations in my ‘Astrogem Poems’ highlight on my instagram page.
Lastly, I want to give you a very astrological explanation as to why I’ve been a bit silent in the last couple of months. Mars’s long journey in Gemini from mid August until late March saw the planet of inflammation and drive in my sixth house of illness and toil. I spent much of that time either sick, recovering, or working overtime to make up for when I couldn’t. What is most uncanny is that Gemini is associated with the respiratory system, and the most acute moment of the transit for me, was when Mars opposed my natal Saturn, ruler of my first house of vitality, and I came down with debilitating bronchitis! This happened right around my birthday, or solar return, in which Saturn became my timelord, meaning what Saturn does this year and what affects my natal Saturn placement have an outsized effect on me through my next birthday/solar return AND that opposition from Mars is imprinted into my year and will be active even as Mars moves on! The result so far is that I have continued to struggle with respiratory/bronchial issues. Allergy season has ignited my asthma in the most extreme way I have ever experienced and I am afraid I have real lung damage from three rounds of Covid and bronchitis. I want to put a disclaimer here that the way this has lined up for me is very specific to not only my chart, but my astrological timing– not everyone who has Mars transiting their sixth house will fall ill and both Mars and the sixth house have many other associations beyond what I’ve shared here.
What I find helpful about seeing my experience reflected so precisely in my astrology is that I not only have a timeline for how long this will be a focus in my life, but also a guide for how to cope with it: BREATHWORK! Saturn wants discipline, Mars wants to take action, so this is how I’ll be putting them to work towards healing. This exploration of my astrological timing is an example of how I work on personal year ahead forecasts, so if you are interested in getting to know your own timelord and what areas of life will be a focus, my books are open for consultations!
A Look at May’s Astrology
We begin our month with an eclipse in Scorpio, exact on May 5th. Unexpected circumstances or revelations may require us to let something go and make room for change or a new beginning. This can be a kind of Spring cleaning in some area of our lives, whether physical, social, or spiritual, where we sever emotional attachments in order to pursue tangible growth. This purge is supported by Mercury’s continued retrograde in Taurus, a good time to slowly and steadily review the usefulness of our wares and reflect on what is routinely easy versus what sustainably delights us and inspires our senses for truly embodied comfort.
Mercury stations direct on May 14, sending us in forward motion with a nourishing new moon in Taurus on May 19th and joyful Jupiter newly ingressed into the sign. This bountiful support in the part of our lives Taurus represents is much needed as we move into an intense month that is arguably a tipping point for the year. Mars’s move into Leo on May 20th sets up major tension as it opposes Pluto in Aquarius and squares Jupiter. There may be power struggles and conflicts that loudly take front and center, though underneath we find emotional stability to pull us through with Jupiter and Saturn’s sextile taking shape. The showy tension that Mars and Pluto create may find resolve as we are driven to prove ourselves, digging deep into our values and offering our greatest virtues. We can work with the intensity that defines the second half of the month by focusing on what needs to be done and approaching it with a steady, determined grace.
